Michael’s extensive background in negotiating partnership agreements, economic development, and process management provides small business clients and organizations with a broad understanding of the factors essential for sustainable growth. From private companies to public institutions and entire Indigenous communities, Michael has worked with all types of organizations throughout the Thompson Okanagan region, BC North, and Yukon Territory to clearly identify their target markets and develop solid tourism and business operating strategies – the foundation of strategic planning. 

Now, Michael is involved with a Lakefront Resort and Indigenous Product development plan with focus on sharing Secwepemc culture and heritage with destination tourism guests and visitors to the region. His experience as General Manager with Indigenous development corporations brings an objective insight to the importance of how people play a role in the success of the business and setting financial management benchmarks and targets.

Having organized major partnership revenue sharing agreements with the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion, community inclusion training and employment plans reporting to the Board of Directors, Chief and Council, provides Michael with the leadership ability required for complex situations. 

In the last few years, he has also been working as a Sessional Faculty Lecturer for the Tourism Management department at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). Michael has taught Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, and Practicum in Tourism courses – where he placed 65 students in career-related jobs in the tourism industry. Tourism & Business expertise early in Michael’s career included positions in marketing, career education, and campus recruitment with several B.C. universities. This was followed by business development roles with major economic development agencies and the Kamloops Airport.

Michael knows the importance of marketing and understanding the customer in the new economy. His personable and professional nature and commitment to quality assurance were instrumental traits during his role as Senior Advisor with the Business Development Bank of Canada Consulting Group.

Michael is an award-winning marketing professional initiating successful business recruitment campaigns attracting millions of dollars of investment to the Kamloops economy. Michael was instrumental in leading the tourism and business stakeholder team and the creation of a strategic marketing plan for the Kamloops Airport. Michael was responsible for standardizing and implementing the City’s investment readiness program to better serve investors from Western Canada and Pacific Northwest U.S.A. and China. During this time, he has been called upon to work with various First Nations in the region or their Economic Development Corporation to mitigate business risk and issues with the goal of building management capacity.
