TOTA’s Commitments
Guided by the 10-Year Regional Tourism Strategy for the Thompson Okanagan, Embracing Our Potential, TOTA has made the following commitments in order to develop a successful year-round destination and an industry:
Stewardship
Ongoing monitoring and reporting of sustainable tourism indicators outlined in the UNWTO INSTO framework.
Series of strategies and initiatives to support the regional and global commitment to cut emissions in half by 2030 and reach Net Zero as soon as possible before 2050.
Recognize that decisions made today will have an impact for seven generations to come.
Deliver plans aligned with the pathways to cut tourism emissions in half over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050.
Take purposeful action to reduce their carbon emissions as per the advice from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Work towards truth and reconciliation by collaborating with Indigenous tourism companies in the Thompson Okanagan region and Indigenous Tourism British Columbia (ITBC).
Improve access and inclusion of Thompson Okanagan tourism services and experiences to provide travel for all.
Member of the Community of Accessible Employers, a network of change-driven BC business leaders who are champions for more accessible, inclusive workplaces.
